LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP — An Illinois man has died after a motorcycle crash in Washington County Wednesday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a 2008 KTM LC8 motorcycle around 1:39 p.m. Wednesday near mile marker 9 on Ohio 26 in Lawrence Township, according to an OSHP news release.

Stephen L. Fisher, 63, of Wheaton, Illinois, was traveling north on Ohio Route 26, attempting to make a left turn, when his motorcycle veered off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail, according to the release.

Fisher was riding with another person, who was in front of him and did not see the crash occur, according to Patrol Sgt. Dustin Payne.

“The two were friends,” said. “They hadn’t seen each other and decided to take a walk.”

Fisher suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have been a factor in the crash and Fisher was wearing a helmet, the statement said.

“We are still investigating it,” Payne spoke about the cause of the accident.

The patrol, its Accident Reconstruction Unit, the Reno Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Gary’s Towing responded to the scene, the release said.
