The Colorado Springs man accused of a gruesome decapitation case is expected to finally appear in court on Wednesday.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The suspect in a gruesome shooting that happened more than two years ago could finally appear in court Wednesday.

For months, Osemeke Uwadibie has refused to be transferred to his scheduled court appearance. In June, the judge presiding over his case said she planned to issue a transfer order by “any means necessary,” but the order hit another snag in July when Uwadibie again missed court, this time due to alleged illness.

The judge said in the courtroom during the July 10 appearance that she had confirmed that Uwadibie was indeed ill, but that the transport order would be in effect for his status hearing in August.

Which means that on Wednesday, after months of avoiding the courtroom, Uwadibie should finally be present at his hearing.

WARNING: The following details are disturbing.

In the spring of 2022, Uwadibie allegedly went on a crime spree that left one person dead, one officer injured, and several cars wrecked in his wake. It began just south of downtown Colorado Springs, when he threatened a driver at knifepoint who refused to give him a ride. When the driver fled, the suspect allegedly climbed into a nearby apartment through a window. As one of the residents ran to get help from a neighbor, arrest documents say Uwadibie attacked a man in the apartment, slashing his stomach and sawing off his head.

The original driver had called 911 and Springs police were waiting outside the apartment when the suspect showed up. He allegedly assaulted one of the officers, stole their patrol car and sped onto the interstate, where police say he collided with several oncoming cars. The repeated collisions disabled the vehicle and police were able to arrest him.

Wednesday’s hearing is a status conference, during which the court could review Uwadibie’s competency. In July, after reviewing his latest competency exam, the judge ruled that Uwadibie would be transferred to Pueblo State Hospital.
