Trump targets Asheville as next campaign stop

Former president Donald Trump decides to visit Asheville – and North Carolina itself – on Wednesday, August 14 for a reason.

With the presidential campaign in full swing, one political strategy is to spend time in a key state.

Former President Donald Trump won North Carolina in 2016 and 2020 by narrow margins.

A mountain politics expert says the state is very much up for grabs this year, and that’s why Trump is coming.

North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes are at stake.

“Rural areas of the state have been getting increasingly red, while urban areas of our state have been getting increasingly blue,” Cooper said.

He says Trump will take his message directly to Asheville, a heavily Democratic city.
