Made by Google 2024: How to watch the Pixel 9 unveiling and everything you need to know

Tomorrow is the annual Made by Google event. We expect the company to unveil its new Pixel 9 phones, and we could also get a glimpse of other new products like the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2.

Beyond hardware, we’re likely to hear about advancements in AI (a central theme of many recent tech presentations), especially as they relate to upcoming Pixel features. We could also get more details on other features coming in Android 15.

Here you will find everything you need to know about the Made by Google event.

When is Made by Google?

Google’s keynote conference is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13thin 10 am Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. ET). The tech giant will hold the event in-person in Mountain View, California, but you can tune in via Google’s live stream from wherever you are.

What Pixel phones could we get?

Google hasn’t been shy about teasing some details about its upcoming phones. It released information about the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold on X, sharing close-ups of the camera and hinge, respectively. It also posted images of the two phones on its site, showing off redesigned, pill-shaped camera modules.

The biggest change this year could be the launch of two Pro models, a larger device and a smaller one. We’re still expecting to receive the base Pixel 9, but you might now be able to choose between the Pixel 9 Pro and what’s rumored to be called the Pixel 9 Pro XL. This XL version is said to have the same high-end specs as the regular Pro, just with a larger display.

Reports also suggest that Google will equip its Pro line with improved camera sensors, resulting in clearer, better-lit photos. The phones could also feature faster charging.

Google hasn’t been shy about its AI efforts either, with one tweet reading, “Meet #Pixel9 Pro with Gemini on #MadeByGoogle.” Gemini is Google’s AI tool and virtual assistant that can help with everything from composing messages to generating images. Reports suggest that Google’s AI will be an integral part of the Pixel 9 series, building on capabilities introduced with the Pixel 8 line. The company also highlighted Gemini in a teaser video for the Pixel 9 Pro.

There are also rumors that the Pixel 9 could come with satellite connectivity, meaning it could send a text message via satellite when there is no regular signal. Google would be following Apple’s lead in this regard, having introduced its Emergency SOS system two years ago, which allows iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Users can send text messages to call emergency services.

Will the Pixel 9 come with Android 15?

The arrival of the Pixel 9 line could also mark the beginning of the long-awaited rollout of Android 15. Google tends to use the Pixel launch to show off everything Android can do, so it’s likely that the latest series will come with Android 15 out of the box.

The latest operating system had its fourth and final beta release last month and includes improved privacy settings, new camera features and better image search.

What could the Pixel Watch 3 look like?

According to Android Authority, the latest version of the Pixel Watch could have slimmer bezels and a brighter 2,000-nit display (double the brightness of the Pixel Watch 2). It could also support Ultra Wideband technology, which would allow you to locate your device using Google’s Find My Device network. UWB technology was expected to be available with the launch of the Pixel Watch 2, but it never saw the light of day. Google could try again with the Pixel Watch 3.

The Pixel Watch, like its phone counterpart, could also come in an XL version. That means there could be a 41mm size, as well as a 45mm one, hopefully with a larger battery.

Could we get new Pixel Buds Pro?

Google launched the Pixel Buds Pro two years ago, so it may be time for an update. Android Headlines shared images of what the new earbuds could look like, and suggests they’ll be available in four colors: charcoal, porcelain, aloe, and hot pink. The speaker grilles could be slightly larger and the wingtips less pronounced, and the case could be a bit bulkier. But overall, the report suggests mostly modest updates.

As always, CNET will be there to bring you all the live updates on August 13.
