Hit-and-run driver damages home and other property in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ family) — A Valley woman is searching for answers after a hit-and-run driver was caught on surveillance camera crashing into the yard of her Phoenix home and leaving extensive damage behind.

The collision happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in a neighborhood near 16th Street and Broadway Road. Shocking video shows a car crashing into a yard, causing significant damage.

The driver fled and now the woman who lives in the house is hoping that person will be found and face charges.

“I’m pretty strong. I’m a very strong person,” said Sylvia Fuentes, the homeowner. “But you know what they say: even rocks break. This broke me,” Fuentes said.

Fuentes tells Arizona’s family that he heard a loud noise the night before and looked out the window, but he didn’t have his glasses on and just thought someone might be having car trouble near his driveway. He didn’t know what really happened until a few hours later when he got up to take his dog out.

He pointed to what was left behind, including a torn-down fence and two damaged vehicles. One of those vehicles was pushed into the part of his home that he uses as an office, damaging the walls and roof.

Fuentes’ Ring security camera video captures the moment the car hits the property and then the image abruptly freezes. Fuentes says that’s because the collision knocked out power to part of his home, including the security camera.

Videos captured by others in the area shortly after the crash show what appears to be an orange car smoking in the driveway. Someone can be seen opening the driver’s side door.

Fuentes called Phoenix police on Sunday morning and filed a report. Now, she hopes the person responsible will come forward and be held accountable.

“I’m tired… I’m tired. And for this to happen, my God. I pay everything I’m supposed to pay, I do what I’m supposed to do,” Fuentes said. “Why couldn’t they do that? They said, you know what? I did this, I’m going to take responsibility. I’m not asking anybody for anything, I’m just saying take responsibility for what you did.”

Fuentes says she is battling cancer and is already working two jobs to pay existing bills. Her family members have set up a GoFundMe account to help her recover. Tap or click here if you would like to donate.

Phoenix police tell Arizona’s Family they responded to the area early Sunday morning and forwarded a report on this case to detectives for follow-up.
