Eaton County received a recycling trailer thanks to a grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. Town leaders say this is a big deal for the community.

“We’re really excited to get out and bring recycling to the rural communities of Eaton County,” said Deborah Penfield.

According to county officials, Eaton County was approved for the grant in 2023, but recently received $68,000 in funding for a new mobile recycling program.

“The ordering process took a little longer, but we’re very happy to have it on the road now,” said Deborah Penfield.

Neighbors can find the truck in Vermontville on the first Thursday of every month.

“We hear from residents that they have to drive to far away places, so this trailer coming to their location, where they can drive down the road or just a few miles, is huge,” Eaton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jim Mott said.

Better access to keep our neighborhoods clean.

“We purchased this trailer because it will prevent a lot of material from entering our fields,” said Eaton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jim Mott.

Eaton County Board Member Terrance Augustine says without the EGLE grant this initiative would not be possible.

“So in this case, EGLE had criteria that we thought were perfect for a trailer like this, we’ve been talking about it for a couple of years, and once that grant matched what we needed, we were successful,” Eaton County Board Member Terrance Augustine said.

Without the EGLE grant, this initiative would not be possible. For more information, please visit [email protected]
