Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear Thursday that he is in no rush to sign star receiver CeeDee Lamb to a new contract.

“I have no urgency to do it,” Jones said, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Lamb, who is currently awaiting a new contract, was quick to respond to Jones on social media.

Lamb also removed the phrase “Team USA” from his X bio and replaced it with “Eights.”

While things have obviously stalled now, NFL Network Ian Rapoport It was reported in late July that the two sides were “getting close” to a new contract. Unless Dallas and Lamb come to an agreement before the regular season, he will play out the final year of his rookie contract and make $17.991 million.

Lamb’s desire for a new deal comes amid the best season of his career, which saw him lead the league in receptions with 135, record the second-most receiving yards with 1,749 and the third-most touchdowns with 12.

That season clearly warrants a big payday for the Cowboys, but they have a lot to think about this season when it comes to paying players.

Along with Lamb, MVP-caliber quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, and could be on the verge of landing a historic new deal after quarterbacks such as Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence all earned extensions worth more than $50 million per year.

Prescott’s looming contract may be the reason Jones isn’t worried about getting Lamb done anytime soon, but if the Cowboys don’t make their star receiver happy, they could be without him next year.
