Dak Prescott will leave if contract talks reach the regular season

Lately, it seems like every team is making it a priority to secure their best players as soon as possible. This approach makes sense so they can focus on the regular season. Unless you’re the Dallas Cowboys.

Teams in the United States continue to delay contract negotiations, leaving Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb waiting. This approach is unorthodox and will cost the franchise a lot of money as the prices to retain elite players continue to rise.

It could also lead to Prescott’s departure according to one NFL analyst.

FURTHER: 3 bargain free agents who could be potential Cowboys targets

While speaking on ESPN’s ‘Get Up,’ former offensive lineman Damien Woody said he believes Prescott will be “gone” if the Cowboys don’t extend his contract before the regular season.

Woody says all players would want to become unrestricted free agents, as that would increase market value due to a potential bidding war. He added that no player wants to deal with contract negotiations right now, let alone in the regular season.

Woody isn’t the only one who thinks this situation could have a negative outcome for Dallas.

Prescott has all the leverage since he can’t be tagged, so once he’s done with the back-and-forth, he can decide to play out the season and move on.
