Bucktail Fire in Western Colorado Nears 4,000 Acres

NUCLA, Colo. (KKTV) – A wildfire burning in western Colorado has burned more than 3,700 acres.

The Bucktail Fire broke out on the morning of August 1 on private land in rural Montrose County, about 5 miles northeast of the city of Nucla. It spread rapidly, reaching more than 100 acres within two hours of being reported and more than 1,700 acres by nightfall. By August 2, the fire had burned more than 2,000 acres; as of Monday morning, the fire had burned 3,722 acres and was only 5 percent contained.

Eleven aircraft are helping to extinguish the fire.

Because of the remoteness of the area, there are currently no threatened structures or evacuations underway. There are a handful of roads closed, including County Road 25 Mesa from Mesa/Divine Road to where the pavement begins outside of Nucla.
