10 former Alabama football players named to 2024 NFL Top 100 list

The Alabama Crimson Tide are well represented in the NFL. There are over 70 former players on NFL rosters heading into the 2024-2025 season. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban and the rest of the Alabama coaching staff did a strong job of getting players geared to play and thrive at the next level. For the most part, that is what the majority of former Alabama players have done.

Recently, the NFL Top 100 list was released. Today, Roll Tide Wire breaks down which former Alabama players made the list and takes a look at where each of them were ranked.

No. 90 – DeVonta Smith, Wide Receiver

2023-2024 Stats: 81 REC / 1,066 RecYds / 7 RecTDs

Former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith posted a new career-high 81 receptions this past season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Louisiana native finished 22nd in the NFL with 1,066 receiving yards. Although many teams passed up on Smith in the 2021 NFL draft because of his size, the former Heisman Trophy winner has made up for him in terms of production. He is a valuable receiving target for former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts. The two coexist to form one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in the NFL.

No. 79 – Minkah Fitzpatrick, Free Safety

2023-2024 Stats: 64 TACK / 1 TFL / 3 PD

Fitzpatrick missed eight games for the Pittsburgh Steelers a season ago but still managed to record 64 tackles. The New Jersey native is arguably the top safety in the NFL when he is healthy. He is an all-around safety that can contribute as a run stopper as well as being able to defend some of the top receivers in the league. Fitzpatrick is expected to be a key leader on the Steelers defense during the 2024-2025 season.

2023-2024 Stats: 72 REC / 1,250 RecYds / 5 RecTDs

The Cleveland Browns have one of the best routerunners in the NFL in Amari Cooper. The former Alabama wide receiver has been one of the few bright spots on the Browns offense. Cooper posted a career-high with 1,250 receiving yards last season. He will be one of the feature wide receivers in the Browns offense this season alongside former Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy who was acquired from the Denver Broncos during the offseason.

No. 63 – Jaylen Waddle, Wide Receiver

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

2023-2024 Stats: 72 REC / 1,014 RecYds / 7 RecTDs

Former Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is one of the most electric wide receivers in the NFL. The Texas native is one-half of the best receiving duo in the NFL. He and Tyreek Hill combined to have 2,813 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns a season ago for the Miami Dolphins. Waddle is expected to have another productive season in South Beach as a fourth-year pro.

2023-2024 Stats: 53 TACK / 5.5 SKS / 10 TFL

Much like he did during his college career, former Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen has wreaked havoc. Allen was a key piece of the Washington Commanders defense last season. Allen provides a strong interior pass rush and is a force against the run. He has consistently been one of the top defensive lineman in the NFL over the course of the last few seasons.

No. 52 – Patrick Surtain II, Cornerback

2023-2024 Stats: 69 TACK / 12 PD / 1 INT

One of the top cornerbacks in the NFL suits up for the Denver Broncos. That is former Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II. The Florida native posted a career-high with 69 tackles. In addition, he was named to the second Pro Bowl of his career. Surtain II is one of the best cover corners in the NFL. He presents problems for opposing offense’s given his length and athleticism.

No. 49 – Derrick Henry, Running Back

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

2023-2024 Stats: 280 CAR / 1,167 RuYds / 12 RuTDs / 28 REC / 214 RecYds

Former Alabama running back and Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry is entering his ninth season in the NFL. The Florida native will be suiting up for a new team for the first time in his NFL career. Henry spent the first eight years with the Tennessee Titans. Now, he will be combined with quarterback Lamar Jackson to form one of the top quarterback-running back duos with the Baltimore Ravens. Henry continues to be productive in spite of the fact that he has had over 200 carries in each of the last six seasons. Will he continue to have success in Baltimore?

No. 37 – Quinnen Williams, Defensive Line

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

2023-2024 Stats: 62 TACK / 5.5 SKS / 1 FF / 1 FR / 1 INT

Former Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams is one of the top pass rushers and run stoppers in the NFL. The Alabama native had a career-high 62 tackles last season for the New York Jets. Williams and his brother — Quincy are two of the top defensive players in the NFL. Both are key pieces of the Jets defense and will continue to be in the forseeable future.

No. 36 – Tua Tagovailoa, Quarterback

Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

2023-2024 Stats: 69.3 CMP% / 4,624 PaYds / 29 PaTDs / 14 INTs / 35 CAR / 74 RuYds

The Miami Dolphins have one of the most prolific passers in the NFL in former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Hawaiian native surpassed 4,000 passing yards for the first time in his career last season. He has two of the best weapons at the wide receiver position in Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. I would expect Tagovailoa to have even more success as he enters his fifth season in the NFL.

No. 15 – Jalen Hurts, Quarterback

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

2023-2024 Stats: 65.4 CMP% / 3,858 PaYds / 23 PaTDs / 15 INTs / 157 CAR / 608 RuYds / 15 RuTDs

Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts has been impressive through the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Texas native posted a career-high in passing yards (3,858), passing touchdowns (23), and rushing touchdowns (15). Hurts has continued to steadily improve each season with the Eagles. If his success continues in 2024-2025, he will make a good case to be the league’s MVP.
