Thieves steal car from Phoenix couple and the incident is caught on video

UPDATE: The car was found about 30 miles from where it was stolen. It is not running and is currently in a municipal impound lot.

Two thieves were caught on camera stealing a car on Sunday morning in north phoenix.

The robbery occurred on the corner of Utopia Street and 28th Street Around 5 am on August 4th.

It was a broken window in the driveway that changed everything for Lauren and Lisa. It’s all that remains of their Kia Sportage.

Cameras surround Lauren and Lisa’s home, but that didn’t deter these two burglars.

“This piece of glass that was there made me think. At first, I thought it was an accident,” Lauren said.

But that glass was from Lisa’s car.

“Then I realized I was standing where my wife’s car was supposed to be and then everything fell into place,” Lauren said.

The Ring camera captures the two suspects getting into the car and smashing the side window. When the camera light turns on, the criminals drive away.

“They snuck away from the scene and then crouched low and got back into the car after breaking the window,” Lisa said. “In the next frame, he’s gone.”

The incident leaves the couple facing an uphill battle.

“Well, the kids start school tomorrow morning, so we’re left with one car and two kids at two different schools,” Lisa said.

They say it’s more than just the car disappearing.

“Even if we get the car back, it’s still weird. Someone else has been in it. They’ve gone through all my stuff. They’ve touched my kids’ toys,” Lisa said.

They feel violated and have lost their sense of security.

“Our house… now feels totally unsafe to me, knowing that basically the criminals are right outside my front door and there’s nothing we can do to stop them,” Lauren said. “It’s very disconcerting.”

Both say this was the final nail in the coffin. They no longer feel safe in their home.

Even with all the cameras, they feel like there’s nothing to do but move.
