Justin Timberlake DUI Update: Pop Star Appears Virtually

Justin Timberlake pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving in a virtual New York courtroom Friday, stemming from his June 18 DWI arrest.

Deadline Sag Harbor Village Judge Carl Irace also reportedly suspended the 43-year-old “SexyBack” singer’s New York driving license. His attorney, Edward D. Burke Jr., also withdrew his earlier motion to dismiss the case.

The next court hearing is a lawyer conference scheduled for August 9.

Newsweek Magazine has contacted Burke and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for comment.

Friday’s appearance comes a week after Burke appeared on Timberlake’s behalf with a motion to dismiss the case based on what the attorney called a procedurally “defective” criminal complaint filed by the officer who stopped Timberlake. He claimed the “young” and “part-time” officer had failed to get a supervising officer to sign off on the criminal complaint.

Timberlake did not appear in court on July 26, as his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour” was taking place that day in Krakow, Poland. The former boy band star will continue his performances in Antwerp, Belgium, on Saturday and Sunday, and next week he will have concerts in the United Kingdom.

Burke said in a statement to Newsweek Magazine On July 26, “The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for driving under the influence.”

Timberlake was arrested in the Hamptons on June 18. Police said they saw him run a red light, swerve several times and fail to stay in his lane as he drove his BMW through town after midnight.

In what has become an infamous moment on social media, Timberlake allegedly said under his breath at the time of his arrest, “This is going to ruin the tour.” The arresting officer, who reportedly did not know the singer, asked, “What tour?” and Timberlake replied, “The world tour.” Page six reported.

Timberlake refused to take a breathalyzer test after his arrest, allegedly telling officers, “I had a martini and followed my friends home.” Police documents noted Timberlake had “red, glassy eyes,” a “strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath,” and his poor performance on all standardized field sobriety tests.

Sources said TMZ Last week, a woman and her husband, whom Timberlake was following after a night of partying, turned around when they saw him being pulled over by police.

The woman reportedly got out of her car and began questioning police, allegedly asking one officer: “Are you going to arrest Justin Timberlake?”

Police allowed the woman, who had apparently been drinking with Timberlake, to get into her car and drive away, sources said.

Burke declined to comment on this report on Monday when contacted by Newsweek Magazine.

Alcohol also got Timberlake into hot water in 2019, when paparazzi caught him holding hands with his “Palmer” co-star Alisha Wainwright in New Orleans. Timberlake publicly apologized to his wife Jessica Biel, 42, in a lengthy Instagram post, admitting that he “drank too much that night” but “nothing happened between me and my co-star.”
