Amtrak suspends all service between New York and Boston

All Amtrak train service between New York City and Boston has been suspended for the remainder of the day, the company announced.

Amtrak said Saturday afternoon that all service between New York City and Boston’s South Station would be suspended for the rest of the day due to power outages north of New York City.

The railroad company said on its website at around 3:30 p.m. that all trains would be canceled due to a circuit breaker malfunction, which it said caused a power outage on all of its tracks between New York City and New Haven, Connecticut.

Further along the Northeast Corridor, to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., some trains experienced delays in the area as a result of cancellations in the north.

The good news? Closer to home in New Jersey, NJTransit reported no major delays as of 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Amtrak advises all customers to check the status of their train before traveling and says it will provide updates as they become available.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks with Amtrak reporting delays in and around New York City, citing issues related to this summer’s extreme heat.

Of course, current travel issues are compounded by the busy holiday weekend schedule, as millions of Americans are expected to travel over the Fourth of July weekend.
