AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Education Agency announced that the State Board of Education has voted to allow some Texas charter schools to open to the public following Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath’s recommendation to grant charter schools to Class of 29ers.

TEA said that, pending approval, the following four Generation 29 charter school applicants are scheduled to begin serving Texas public school students by the 2025-26 school year:

Infinite Minds Charter School (Arlington)
Pathway Academy (Great Spring)
Texas Girls’ School (Austin)
Peerless Preparatory Academy (Manor)

The board vetoed granting a charter to Visionary STEM Academy (Terrell), according to the TEA.

While the application process is being completed, the four charter schools will hold contingency discussions with TEA before signing contracts. These contingencies include a review of curriculum alignment with state standards and clarification of board policies, staffing and bylaws, according to the news release.

The TEA said 8% of Texas public school students are served by one of Texas’ 179 open-enrollment charter schools on 886 campuses.
