Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission conducts “Operation Dry Water” | Berks Regional News

Not only will we see more officers on the roads this weekend, but they will also be on the water.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is conducting “Operation Dry Water” to ensure that people do not drink water while boating.

For many, this weekend is their first time drinking water.

Conservation officer Michael Blair says boating under the influence of alcohol is a major concern.

It says it caused 8 deaths last year and 7 deaths this year through early June.

Officer Blair says drinking while boating can be more dangerous than driving: “On the water, it’s very different. There are no roads, there’s nothing to stop you. There’s not always the best communications here to call for help. And there’s not always quick, immediate resources to get to an accident.”

Officers are also on the lookout for other security breaches during this operation.

Make sure you have your life jackets, flotation devices, a noise maker and a fire extinguisher.
